August 20th events and Local blog/news roundup



  • ABOVE: I'm sure you have heard by now, it's trickled throughout facebook (lol @ Christian Mendez) and the blogosphere. There is a project to revamp and deliciousify 5 Points Theatre restoring it to it's former glory and then some.   • A Help Save Five Points Coffee Shop Facebook event was started to mobilize a effort to help the shop to stay open despite unforeseen expenses threatening to close the place down. Inside you'll fine what ideas they are collaborating on as far as donations and a August 28th event with live music. to get involved contact them or visit the Facebook page link above.   • Bike Jax Blog posted a article showcasing a new local bicycling advocacy group; The Jacksonville Bicycle Coalition."Fighting for Our Right-of-Way: A Duval-based order advocating for the rights of cyclists. If these mean streets are wearing you down, join us. United WE make a difference."
  • Just in: The bike club SkidMarks started a mobile on site bike repair service. Text your name and number or call 458-SKID. 6 members are ready to help as late as 3am. It's part of a on going project for on the spot help with more to come.
  • Posted on Money Jungle Safari blog; 'G. Jerome Jones on Hip-Hop', touching on some history as well as the local hiphop scene resources that helped it grow.
  • Jacksonville Suns starting pitcher Graham Taylor slide fail on YouTube. Lols.
