I hate JEA

First off I know I shouldn't talk about JEA, I have friends that work there and I feel like big brother is going to start watching me. The reason I'm so upset is two months ago JEA switched their online billpay to a different company so I had to re-enter all my information. Well the first month I sent the payment through, then a week later I get a new bill showing no payment and a late return check fee. So I go to the downtown office and I pay it, because I think I might have entered something wrong. The next month I do the same thing, re-enter all my bank information...making sure I didn't mess up any numbers, verifying my account information. The next bill shows up, showing non-payment, so I go down there and am ready to dispute it. At first I thought it might have been my error but not twice. I tried saying nicely to the customer service representative, "listen something is wrong with your system". But she tells me nothing is wrong I owe the return check fees. She made me feel like some poor person that is trying to scam the electric company out of some free service. I'm thinking two months ago I was an online bill payer, paying my bills on time, so what am I doing here. She wouldn’t take debit or check payment because now my account is in a delinquent status. So now I have to find a ATM machine. When I returned, I went to a different representative. I tell her my problem and that I would like to keep using the online bill pay, and I ask her if anyone else has had this problem. She looks at my info and she tells me that I should get this e-mail they just sent out a week ago. In the e-mail it says 1100 other people have had this problem tells me it’s a fault in the system, and I need to re-enter my info and it should be fine this time. She then takes off the return check charge.

My next bill says my balance is $210.43 they received a payment of $187.17, new charges before $23.26, new charges, and I owe 134.59.

First I'm pretty upset because I saved my last receipt and it says I paid $210.43. Now the bill shows that I only paid $187.17 and I owe the difference ($23.26) with the new charge of $134.59.

So I went down there again this morning to get the $23.26 taken off my bill. The representative tells me that I owe $134.59. I show her my receipt and then she showed me a bill with a return check charge of $23.26. I told her about the online bill pay problems I was having. She looked into it, told me the second time I paid was after the email was sent out, so I'm at fault. I never got the email because I had a new email address, and that I felt this issue was all JEA's fault. She asked if I re-entered my information, and I replied that I don't trust it, I might get charged a return check fee again. So finally she looks at my bill. I have two meters so I have two accounts on one bill. The first one is $69.53 and the second is $65.06, that equals $134.59. She tells me that I owe that much, which is my new balance from my bill. By this time I'm so confused by the way my bill is coded and I feel they can scam money from those that don't bother to look or are just not smart enough to figure it out.

So I figured out my bill and this is what it means. The $210.43 is how much I paid last time. $187.17 is how much I should have paid. The $23.26 is a credit not a charge maybe for my first return check fee. $187.17 minus $23.36 is my new charge 111.33 and how much I truthfully owe. The $134.59 is a bull crap scam number so that JEA can take a little bit of everyone knowing hoping we don't ask questions.

I did just pay it. I hate being in there, I hate that one representative will help you and the others treat you like your a liar.

Sunrise Bank At Sunrise 4/19/09

Sorry I don't have more pictures, there was someone new at Sunrise Bank At Sunrise. He brought in old report cards from his father and told a bunch of stories about Jacksonville History. For those who haven't been it's a pretty good time. There is free coffee, Jerry from the Historic Society is there, you can read the paper, lately Jerry has been making muffins. For me it has been the start for long productive Sundays.

6th Annual Amateur Film Contest @ the Main Library

From Scott Adams, Senior Librarian with the Jacksonville Public Library:
"Monsters invade the Main Library for the 6th annual Amateur Film Contest! Create a short (under 7 minute) film with a monster theme (pretty much any monster will work, your Frankensteins, Godzillas, what have you), include the phrase “Behind you,” and submit it to the Main Library by May 6th and possibly win a prize at our showing on May 9th. Submissions must be received by the 6th for screening, and the phrase, “behind you” must be somewhere in the film. Past competitions have been full of appreciative audiences, with several surprises. The contest viewing will be May 9th at 11 AM at the Hicks Auditorium at the Main Library."
You can find the submission form here. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Scott Adams at 630-1940 or sadams@coj.net.

Tomorrow's Record Store Day

For those who don't know the second Saturday of April has been declared as Record Store Day. With the bad economy and the desire to download music, the local record store is one day going to be as common as a drive-in-theatre. Damn the man, save the Empire. Here are the records stores and their events:

JT Murphy's Five Points Homeless Videos

Last month I was looking at recent Jacksonville videos on youtube and this popped up. They were uploaded by a user named Safner. I figured from his description they were made in 2001 by JT Murphy, a friend and old neighbor of mine. I asked him a few questions about the documentary film. Interviewed by tom p.

How did the project come about? I was playing music in a few bands and just starting to paint. But wanted to make any kind of art there was to be made. I have always been intrigued with the homeless even as a kid..when I got a camcorder it seemed like the film I should make.

When did you start filming and how long did it take? I dont remember..but the dates are on the screen..I think the first rule in film school is to remove the date..never went to film school.

Was it hard getting homeless people to tell you their stories? No cause I knew almost everyone in the film..

Did you have to buy them beer or food to get them to talk on film? No..I think I bought Jackie some fries from Hardees, now Pizza Palace.

I think you told me you edited as you were filming, is that right? Yep..pause record and two vcrs..music overdub from a 4 track.

Who were all the people involved in making the film, was it just you? Just me..some random kids watched as I was filming tho.

Do you know where any of the homeless people are now? A few are still in Five Points..Ajax(rip)..I hear Art is a car salesman on Cassat Ave.

Do you have any emotional attachment to the film or any of the people in it? Of course.. it was the first and only thing I ever did with a camera..so it's like ..remember that one time I made a movie..

Invisible Children

My Sociology professor alerted me to this really great even that is taking place around the world. Watch this video...

In the African country of Uganda, children are abducted everyday and forced to serve as child soldiers in the LRA, a rebel army. On April 25th, across the globe in over 100 cities, fake abductions will be staged to raise awareness about this important but oft ignored issue.

Events will be held in Orlando and Tallahassee, so if you can make it to one of those you should. If not, there are other ways to show your support. Just check out the Invisible Children website for more info.

Don't just stand there hipster, DO SOMETHING!
