Hey there,
Thanks for the great photos and the post. I felt weird posting about it again. My mom actually paid for it because she didn't want me to raise a ruckus over it. It cost 3K I think. She had to dip into her retirement money for it.
The city would have added us to a super long list and neither one of us would have ever seen it built in our lifetimes most likely.
Nice post though. Thanks mate.

Oh and honestly I was a bit embarrassed she ended up paying for it. She just recovered from breast cancer last year and had a horrible year and I found it odd that the city was going to put our request for a bench way back on a long list and had predicted ten years or so before it was to be built. I told her I was going to start a petition and protest it, etc. and she just didn't want the attention.
They said that's the only way it could have been done with city money. Really great photos you took though. Really appreciate it. Very kind of you to do this post. My father was a very kind man and he did a lot for Jacksonville's youth mainly by coaching sports.
It's nice I sat there for a while, enjoyed it. It's funny how your mom can get it done for 1/3 the city's cost.
Yeah. No doubt. I forgot that was there estimate. 10K and ten years was their answer.
Instead my mother had to go into her retirement fund to build it in six months so I wouldn't possibly embarrass her and the legacy of my father trying to get one built with the cities money.
After all this is a man who was heavily involved with growing and advocating the cities parks and recreation. He definitely didn't deserve a park bench right? Truly saddening but now it's over.
Glad you enjoyed your trip there. Once again great photos. We plan on planting flowers and when I get some time I was going to build a web project for it. I bought www.mickeykingpark.com for a memorial web site. Can I use the photos you took on the site?
absolutely use whatever photos you want.
i don't see anything embarrassing about loving your father. i think it's weird how these days people will shun someone for standing up for something they believe in.
Awesome. Thanks Tom. Very kind of you. I'll get to work on the site soon. You've inspired me to pick that project back up.
Yeah all I wanted was a park bench and I was going to have to raise hell to possibly get one there using city funds.
Thanks again mate.
